Wedding season is upon us and finding a dress is maybe one of the most exhausting parts – go figure. So today, I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for a non-formal wedding (formal picks coming next week!). Although, these would be just as great for any type of big event!
As you can see florals are big this year and I’m loving every second of it. But, I know that not everyone is a floral-kind-of-gal and so I’ve included some others as well. When you’re going to a wedding that isn’t super formal there are some things that I like to consider and hopefully this will help you ladies as well. First – where is the wedding being held? The location of the event can have a huge consideration on what type of dress to wear. An outdoor wedding is the perfect time to wear florals, bright colors, or a flowy, long dress. If it is a traditional wedding that is held inside at church, I’d stick with something a little more subdued. This is the time you can wear a darker color (even in springtime!), a solid color, dresses that are more structured and nothing too short. Second – know your audience. Are the people getting married more conservative or crazy and outgoing? The more fun a wedding and the atmosphere, the more fun you can have with your dress, the pattern and the accessories.
Now with all that being said, there are also some things to avoid. First – choose your color wisely. You never want to be the one that has all of the attention on you. This is the bride’s day, not yours. Don’t pick anything white or cream. And don’t choose anything that’s overly distracting like neon colors. Second – be conscious of the skin that you’re showing. There is a time and a place to show a ton of skin, but I don’t feel like someone’s big day is that time, nor place. Again, you don’t want the attention on you. You don’t have to be modest, but if you want to show a little skin, think of areas like an open back, or a slit. Showing skin needs to be tasteful, not like you’re going out to the club. Do people still do that?! 🙂
Lastly, all of my picks above are ones for purchase, but if you really don’t think you’ll wear the dress again, think of other alternatives like borrowing a girlfriend’s dress, or renting one from places like Rent the Runway. Don’t let a big event stress you out. If you need help with selections, fitting your body type, finding options in your price range; just ask. I’m always available to help you guys out and would love to help you find the right option for you and the event!
My favorites from above are: #1 – the mustard color is such a refreshing color for springtime and I love the cornflower blue it’s paired with in the flowers. #5 – the perfect shade of red, not obnoxious and a tiered ruffle that will look good on a lot of different body types. And last, #7 – love the simplicity of this dress, but don’t let it fool you, it has an open back which is such an unexpected twist, just perfect for an event.
xoxo
